Using the mind
To try to understand

The mind is a tool
Unsuited to this task.
The proper tool is silence.

I would like to recommend this short but very clear meditation/talk by Mooji:
When you speak, it’s always Awakeness that is speaking. Awakeness is all there is. Ego can’t speak because it’s an illusion.
It’s just that Awakeness can be conscious of itself or not.
The lack of concern for progress is the only sign of progress.
